About

Scout is a wine farm in the Similkameen Valley, B.C. It was started in 2018 by four friends, Maggie, Murray, Carly and Aaron. We have worked with wine in various capacities, from sales, to winemaking, to farming for over 12 years. We share a dream to make minimalist, farm-driven wines. The Similkameen is central to our story. It is where we met, found a community and the place that inspires our wines. Our region is classified as semi-arid continental. The mountains create a rain shadow, resulting in an average of only 320 mm (13 inches) of precipitation a year. These desert-like conditions cause diurnal shifts resulting in hot summer days and our nights cooled by alpine winds from the mountains above. The persistent winds reduce pest and mildew pressure, and help retain freshness and acidity in our wines. The soils at our farm are granitic, which moderate vine growth and retain heat during the day, aiding ripeness. Most importantly, the Similkameen is our home, so the way we farm has a direct impact on our families, our friends and the surrounding community. As such, it is our hope and aim as farmers, to reduce our inputs and practice a healthier way of farming that considers the entire ecosystem.
